7 Ways to Get Free Traffic to Your Affiliate Links
You’ve heard of affiliate marketing, but you have no idea how to go about get free traffic. As an online marketer myself, I hear this one all the time, and I’m here to tell you that it’s not as difficult as you might think!
In fact, there are many proven ways to get free traffic to your affiliate links, with little to no extra effort on your part. Here are seven of my favorite methods to get free traffic to your affiliate links!
1) Search Engine Optimization is a great way to get free traffic
Although search engine optimization is a lot more complicated than just writing descriptive text, adding keywords to your content and then hoping they’ll get picked up in a Google search can help you gain free traffic.
Optimizing affiliate links is particularly important if you’re not planning on driving traffic to them manually; after all, if no one is searching for a term, how will anyone find your link? Use common sense when optimizing affiliate links: if it doesn’t make sense for Google to rank your content high, don’t try.
While keyword stuffing might work well enough for some shady affiliates out there, Google doesn’t like it and has become extremely good at spotting patterns that look unnatural.
2) An email list
Email is still one of (if not THE) most powerful ways to get traffic, despite all of its negative press. An email list is also one of your most valuable assets—once you build it up, you’ll be able to send out content or products and target specific groups of people who might be interested in what you have to offer.
You can also promote affiliate links in your email list! To start building your email list, sign up for a free service like Getresponse or Aweber. Once you have an email provider set up, create a landing page with an offer that compels people to opt-in.
3) Getting your name out there will help to get free traffic
One of the easiest ways to generate free traffic for your affiliate links is through online directories. Most directories allow you to list your website in exchange for a backlink. With that said, make sure you know what type of backlink is being offered and how it will affect your rankings. The best types of backlinks are natural or organic ones.
4) Building relationships with influencers
As you’ve probably noticed, there are a ton of places on social media where you can share your affiliate links. But, just because something is easy doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. If you want long-term success with affiliate marketing and free traffic from affiliates—and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?—then building relationships with influencers is crucial.
With an influencer in your corner (say a YouTuber who also has a strong Instagram presence), people are more likely to visit their site or social channels and click through your affiliate link because they know it comes from someone they trust.
5) Social media outreach will also help to get free traffic
Setting up a presence on social media is a great way to get free traffic to your affiliate links. The trick is finding influential people in your niche and connecting with them. Use relevant hashtags, share their content and engage with them when they post. I use this software for Facebook organic traffic.
It’s important not to go for quantity when doing social media outreach; rather, focus on building quality relationships with 1-2 people in your niche each day. If you keep at it over time, you’ll start racking up shares from them and getting targeted traffic as a result.
6) Post-quality content regularly is needed to get free traffic
Posting quality content is a great way to keep visitors on your site for longer periods of time. This will also give you more chances to share affiliate links with relevant content, which will boost your conversion rates over time.
The key here is to know your niche and what readers in that niche are searching for—which is why keyword research is so important. If you can find a post idea that combines your product or service with something people are already interested in, you’re more likely to convert them into paying customers.
7) Brand yourself for search engines
When you’re starting out in affiliate marketing, it can be difficult to get free traffic. You won’t have a large social media following or email list, so you need other ways of getting eyes on your affiliate links.
One easy way is by building yourself up as an authority in your field; if you develop a respected brand, there are lots of ways that people will want to read what you have to say and click on your links.
If they trust you, they’ll click through even when they don’t necessarily care about the topic (in fact, it might be better if they don’t—because then they might turn into paying customers). This takes time, though.
